Instructions: Review the illustration. This is an anterior view of the abdominal region showing the left and right kidney, liver, right and left ureter, and the 12th rib.

Task: Colour each numbered structure using the colour indicated in the list below:

  1. left kidney (brown)
  2. right kidney (brown)
  3. liver (orange)
  4. right and left ureter (yellow)
  5. 12th rib of the rib cage (purple)

This illustration activity shows shows the location of the kidneys in the abdomen. The kidneys lie on either side of the spine in the retroperitoneal space between the parietal peritoneum and the posterior abdominal wall, well protected by muscle, fat, and ribs.
